I just need the exact set of fonts and font styles that show up in Notepad. I am pretty sure that this is also the exact same set that shows up in CFontDialog. Apparently it is not quite possible to get this set of Fontname + FontStyle from EnumFontFamiliesEx. If this function is run once without LOGFONT:lfFaceName specified we get the set of names generally without styles. If we run this function again with LOGFONT:lfFaceName filled in for each name we generally get back the names that are associated with the styles. This only works consistently if the first set of returned names does not contain style information. In the case of Calibri we only get back two names: Calibri Calibri Light Italic If we would have gotten back 'Calibri Light' instead of 'Calibri Light Italic' it would have worked.

100% Accurate Display Screen OCR The solution is to use the LOGFONT::lfFaceName parameter of the EnumFontFamExProc callback function, and not to use the ENUMLOGFONTEX::elfFullName parameter. Using the original LOGFONT structure eliminates the possibility of using the wrong name. In other words use the original LOGFONT parameter before it was extended into the ENUMLOGFONTEX parameter. Don't use the ENUMLOGFONTEX parameter at all. This solution will provide the exact set of fonts that is specifically defined within the font files.
There are some fonts that show up in notepad that will not be in this list. These extra fonts have synthesized Italic which is called Oblique, and synthesized Bold. Bold is never synthesized for Font files that have another degree of FontWeight defined in their name. To see the whole list of FontWeight names look up the LOGFONT structure. Arial Black has no Bold because it is already very bold.
Likewise for Calibri Light. A separate Calibri does have a Bold, yet Calibri Light has its own font file that is separate from Calibri. 100% Accurate Display Screen OCR. Hi PeterEnumFontFamiliesEx not working correctly Apparently it is not quite possible to get this set of Fontname + FontStyle from EnumFontFamiliesEx. If this function is run once without LOGFONT:lfFaceName specified we get the set of names generally without styles. Could you please clarify this issue with some sample code? Which version of Visual Studio you were using?

If I run your code with no font specified in LOGFONT then I do get Calibri and Calibri Light. And if I specify those in LOGFONT then I do get their styles:. Bold, Bold Italic, Italic and Regular for Calibri. Italic and Regular for Calibri Light On the other hand, the font dialog shows a single Calibri font and the Italic and Regular styles of the Calibri Light font are displayed as Light and Light Italic.
The reason for this seems to be that the Calibri Light font has alternate names for its family name and style names, EnumFontFamiliesEx uses one set of names while the font dialog uses the other set of names. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any way to make EnumFontFamiliesEx use the other set of names, it seems that the font dialog extracts those names via GetFontData. You could probably do the same thing but it's not exactly easy because you need to understand the data tables used by the TTF file format. One possible solution is to use DirectWrite to obtain the font list, the result is more consistent with what the font dialog shows. The drawback of using DirectWrite is that it doesn't support the old bitmap fonts (.FON) like Courier. If I run your code with no font specified in LOGFONT then I do get Calibri and Calibri Light.
And if I specify those in LOGFONT then I do get their styles:. Bold, Bold Italic, Italic and Regular for Calibri. Italic and Regular for Calibri Light It does not work this way for me, I get back: a) Calibri b) Calibri Light Italic There is no way that I can get back Italic and Regular from Calibri Light Italic. Why does it not work the same way for me as it works for you, when we both use the same code?
100% Accurate Display Screen OCR. Yes the problem (that I have been saying all along) is that I am getting back calibri light italic instead of calibri light. Everything looks fine under Windows explorer: Calibri Bold Calibri Bold Italic Calibri Italic Calibri Light Calibri Light Italic Calibri Regular The font shell extension did not seem to add any info that was not already there, maybe it was already installed. There are other similar problems too, for example there is no way to get Arial Black Italic or Brushwood Bold Italic. Unlike Calibri Light these latter two are sythesized with no corresponding font file.
100% Accurate Display Screen OCR. 'The font shell extension did not seem to add any info that was not already there, maybe it was already installed.' That font extension is supposed to add a bunch of tabs to the file properties dialog. Among those tabs there's a Names tab which show the font family name and style name. 'There are other similar problems too, for example there is no way to get Arial Black Italic or Brushwood Bold Italic.'

I don't see a Arial Black Italic font in the font dialog, there's only Arial Black Oblique. FYI I'm using Win 8.1. I tried your code on Win7 machine but that doesn't have the Calibri Light font installed. It seems that I was already getting all these extra properties from Windows Explorer Details view. Oblique means synthesized Italic. I had the same problem with Calibri Light Italic on my other Windows 7 machine. Since it seems to be a Windows 7 bug, do you think tech support will give me a free work-around and forgo their huge fee?
I just found the same problem with Sans Narrow EnumFontFamilies only returns Sans Narrow Bold, thus there is no way to get all of the four defined fonts: Sans Narrow Sans Narrow Bold Sans Narrow Bold Italic Sans Narrow Italic 100% Accurate Display Screen OCR. 'Since it seems to be a Windows 7 bug, do you think tech support will give me a free work-around and forgo their huge fee?' I have no idea. But it does look like a bug in Win7's GDI.
I copied those 2 Calibri fonts to the Win7 machine and I too get Calibri Light Italic instead of Calibri Light. Since those fonts work correctly on a Win8.1 machine I assume that the font themselves are correct and GDI is wrong. DirectWrite on Win7 doesn't appear to have this problem, it lists 'Calibri' as the family name and a bunch of styles including 'Light' and 'Light Italic'. DirectWrite would not be a solution because its font related functionality will not work on Windows XP. There is also the problem that it ignores the raster fonts.
The only solutions that I can come up with are to: 1) Figure out how to automatically convert the incorrect return values of EnumFontFamiliesEx to correct values. 2) Find a way to get the font names from the font files. Both of these solutions may be less than the 100% reliability that I have set as the standard for my software.
The solution that I prefer is to use whatever solution that the standard application notepad.exe is using. (Hopefully this solution is consistent across Windows versions) Microsoft refused to provide any assistance without a $259.00 payment, even for a verified bug. 100% Accurate Display Screen OCR.
